Finding great staff is the biggest single problem I have found in 25 years of entrepreneurship.
And when I did find them they moved on to better things unfortunately..

Couldn't agree more, its funny but when you think of all the experiences you've had buying things whether it be online or face to face, you ALWAYS remember the bad experiences. For me, these experiences could have easily been avoided with proper communication either internally through their own departments or also externally with myself. Bad communication portrays disorganisation and that doesn't make a consumer feel confident in trusting you with their hard earned cash.

Great post. Communication is the key, particularly to businesses who need to remain responsive to their customers or clients. I read an article that customers are only willing to wait around 4 and a half minutes on hold before hanging up - if a business doesnt have the communcation systems or staff to handle these levels of communcation then potential clients or customers will be hanging up! Not to mention demonstrating a poor brand image.

Late payment of suppliers seems to be endemic in the UK. Not sure how we will be able to break this habit, but the Cabinet Office has the idea of naming and shaming the worst offenders via a website they are launching soon. Lets hope that it at least lets suppliers know what they are letting themselves in for.

The Davies report sets out tougher recommendations for bringing more women into the boardroom but for small business owners and managers the key is practical support to set up and run effective businesses. Access to finance, business planning, bringing in customers and selling profitably is what every business person needs regardless of gender, not just the softer aspects of mentoring and ‘support.’
